What is Command Line Interface (CLI)?

A command line interface (CLI) is a system that utilizes lines of text to process commands for a specialized computer program. The interface used to execute command line instructions is called a command-line-processor or command-line-interpreter. Most applications utilize menu-driven or graphical user interfaces (GUIs), but some still use a command line — especially for software development and other technical processes.
