What is Cryptography?

In computing, cryptography is the study of secure communication techniques that allow computerized networks to operate in a transparent and verifiable manner. In blockchain specifically, cryptography often involves the use of asymmetric encryption (public-key cryptography) and other specialized encryption frameworks that are used to secure the integrity of data exchange on distributed systems. In general, cryptography is the study and analysis of computing protocols and similar systems to prevent malicious behavior. Data confidentiality, authentication, data security, and other related practices are essential to modern day cryptography.
