What is Inter-Chain Communication?

Inter-chain communication, which is also called cross-chain communication, is a process that facilitates communication between different blockchain networks to enable mutual interaction and value exchange, often in the form of token and cryptocurrency asset exchange. Cross-chain and inter-chain communication are one of the main technologies that enable blockchain network interoperability. There are inefficiencies related to inter-chain communication, but as blockchain proliferation grows, many experts believe that it will become increasingly more efficient to exchange data in new ways, such that full data sharing capabilities between hundreds or even thousands of blockchains may be possible.
