The NASDAQ Composite Index is a stock index made up of more than 2,500 commodities listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange. Almost half of the index is made of stocks that represent technology enterprises. In order to be listed on the NASDAQ Composite Index, the asset must be a stock from a traditional company, meaning that preferred stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and most other securities are not included. The NASDAQ 100 (the top 100 non-financial NASDAQ stocks by market capitalization) makes up over 90% of the NASDAQ Composite Index.
