Qtum is public Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain protocol based on Bitcoin's code but modified to allow smart contracts to run on top of its UTXO (Unspent Transaction Output) model. With Qtum Neutron, the blockchain is able to connect to several virtual machines (VMs) simultaneously. This allows Qtum to make use of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and its own state-of-the-art x86 VM while leveraging the capabilities of its 1,000-node blockchain network.
