What is Retail Investor?

A retail investor is a non-professional investor that buys and sells securities, mutual funds, cryptocurrencies, or other investment assets through a traditional or online brokerage firm, exchange, or other type of investment account. Retail investors typically buy securities or other assets for their own personal use and generally trade (or hold long-term) in much smaller increments when compared to institutional investors.
