What is UNI Token (Uniswap)?

UNI token (UNI) is the native governance token of the Uniswap Protocol, a decentralized cryptocurrency exchange (DEX). The token was initially released in September 2020, when Uniswap airdropped 400 tokens into each unique cryptocurrency address that had interacted with the Uniswap Protocol prior to September 1, 2020. This first round distribution reached ~50,000 Ethereum addresses, immediately making UNI one of the most widely distributed tokens within the cryptocurrency space. In total, 60% of UNI's genesis supply is intended to go to the community, while the remaining 40% have been allocated to Uniswap team members, investors, and advisors.
