Anonymous investor lost $4.2 million due to phishing attack

An unidentified investor lost his savings in a clever phishing attack. This incident became known to #cybersecurity experts from Scam Sniffer, a well-known company specializing in online fraud protection.

The experts found out that an anonymous investor fell victim to the fraudulent scheme, resulting in a loss of around 4.2 million in aEthWETH and aEthUNI tokens. The attack occurred after the attacker manipulated the ERC-20 authorization signature, tricking the investor into approving transactions.

The user reportedly unknowingly authorized transactions that used the tricky code, skillfully bypassing security warnings. As a result, all funds were quickly transferred to the attacker's designated address, leaving the investor in dire financial straits.

According to a detailed Scam Sniffer report, cybercriminals managed to steal $295 million dollars through cryptocurrency theft in 2023 alone. A total of 324,000 people were victimized by cybercriminals, indicating that such crimes are widespread.

In addition, in December 2023, the #Google search engine and the popular #social network X were subjected to a large-scale attack. The consequences of this attack were felt by more than 63,000 users.
