Lugano city has just made an exciting announcement - it will now allow its residents and businesses to pay taxes and other municipal services using #Bitcoin and #Tether (USDT). This new payment option is made possible through a collaboration with Swiss crypto company Bitcoin Suisse. With this streamlined process, all bills issued by the city can now be settled with either of these cryptocurrencies.
“It is great to see that more and more Swiss municipalities are offering payments in cryptocurrencies as an option available to both citizens and companies, complementing traditional payment methods such as post-office counters and e-banking platforms”said Bitcoin Suisse Chief Product Officer Armin Schmid.
Lugano is making strides in its adoption of cryptocurrency payments through its partnership with Tether and the implementation of its "Plan B." This plan aims to incorporate blockchain technology into various aspects of the city's financial infrastructure. The latest development involves expanding crypto payments and extending their use to other areas of civic life.

To facilitate this transition, Lugano has enlisted the support of Bitcoin Suisse, which will provide the necessary technical infrastructure for accepting Bitcoin and Tether. Through the utilization of Swiss QR-Bill technology, residents of #Lugano can conveniently scan a code on their bills and make payments using their preferred mobile crypto wallets.
Additionally, #Polygon recently introduced an app called MyLugano, which enables residents to pay taxes, parking tickets, and public services using cryptocurrency.
This move follows in the footsteps of #Switzerland's "crypto valley" canton Zug, which began accepting Bitcoin and #Ethereum for tax payments in 2021. The partnership with local firm Bitcoin Suisse enables the conversion of crypto tax payments into Swiss francs.
