Peter Szilagyi, the head of the Ethereum team, recently expressed his disappointment with the lack of interest from his university in offering students opportunities to collaborate with Ethereum. In his posts on X (formerly Twitter), Szilagyi explained that he has always felt a lack of genuine interest when he returned to his university to give lectures about the Ethereum project.
He noted that students seem to be more focused on the price of the ETH cryptocurrency rather than the project itself. The price of the main token of the Ethereum network has increased by 21% in the last 30 days.
Over the past years I've been asked many times to do talks at my old university about #Ethereum. I did a couple of them, but didn't feel genuine interest.

The audience seems to have been stuck in the number go up aspect; and the organizers always used it as an ad campaign. 1/4
Szilagyi mentioned that this year, he organized a grant for nine students to participate in Devconnect, including covering their travel and accommodation expenses.
"I thought, let's see if this sparked any interest. I reached out to some old acquaintances from the university (including the person through whom I received the grant) to see if they could recommend potential collaboration with some students (for a fee)."
However, he claims that the students do not know who is funding this initiative.
"I haven't met the students myself, but someone supposedly has. They had no idea where the grant came from," he said.
Szilagyi hopes that universities will start showing more interest in blockchain and cryptocurrency projects, as it is an important and innovative area of development.
He also emphasized that the #Ethereum Foundation will continue to support universities and students, despite the lack of interest from their side.
"We will continue to support universities and students because we believe in the significance of blockchain and cryptocurrency education. Hopefully, in the future, universities will show more interest and support in this field.
Szilagyi added that the Ethereum Foundation is open to collaborating with other universities and organizations that show an interest in the development of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.
#Ethereum is one of the most popular and widely used blockchain platforms in the world. It provides the ability to create and deploy smart contracts and decentralized applications (#DApps).
