The U.S. government has transferred 15,085 BTC (equivalent to approximately $947 million) seized after the #Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange was hacked. This information was disclosed by Arkham company.
On February 28, 2024, two cryptocurrency wallets acting as vaults for bitcoins seized by the U.S. government from Bitfinex hackers transferred approximately $1 billion to an undisclosed destination.
First, 1 BTC was transferred to one wallet, and 30 minutes later another 2,817 BTC was transferred along with the rest of the funds in the wallets. At the time of the transaction, the value of these funds was approximately $172 million.
Subsequently, another 12,267 BTC (worth about $748 million) was transferred to another wallet containing about 12,300 BTC by transferring 0.01 BTC to an unidentified address.
Arkham reported the existence of another #US government wallet that holds about 94,600 BTC seized from Bitfinex #hackers.
It is worth noting that the bitcoin transfer coincided with a period when the value of the main cryptocurrency rose sharply and crossed the $63,000 threshold.
