A BitMEX cryptocurrency wallet containing 1 BTC has failed in its quest to reach the moon, instead burning up in Earth's atmosphere during the controlled deorbit of the Peregrine landing vehicle.
On January 8, 2024, the super-heavy Vulcan Centaur launch vehicle embarked on a comic journey, carrying the Astrobotic lunar landing module into the vast expanse of space. In addition to a huge amount of payloads and scientific instruments, the rocket carried wallets containing 1 BTC and the physical token #Dogecoin.
According to the plan, the device was supposed to cross the celestial expanse and land softly on the surface of the Moon. Alas, fate had other plans. During the landing, there were unforeseen difficulties with the propulsion system, which led to a fuel leak.
These problems derailed the lunar plans, forcing the Astrobotic team to return the landing module. Operators were faced with the daunting task of devising an intricate scheme for the vehicle's controlled descent from orbit.
And so, on January 19, 2024, the ill-fated Peregrine, carrying 1 BTC and Dogecoin wallets, met its fiery doom, burning up in the Earth's atmosphere over the vastness of the South Pacific Ocean. The spacecraft, along with the precious cargo of bitcoin and #memcoin, spent a total of 10 days and 13 hours in the vastness of space.
In this sad tale of celestial misfortune, the dreams of a cryptocurrency #wallet to reach the moon were dashed, leaving behind only ashes and a poignant reminder of the unpredictable nature of space exploration.
