Cryptocurrency wallet MetaMask is currently experimenting with creating its first "onchain card" in collaboration with Mastercard. This is reported by CoinDesk, citing promotional materials.
According to the report, the cards will be offered by Baanx Group, a B2B2C solutions provider. The initiative is presented as a pioneering "onchain card." The exact meaning of the term is unclear at this time.
According to the promotional content, holders of such a card will be able to use their #digital assets to pay for goods and services through any POS system. The organization that will act as an intermediary for currency transactions in such a scenario has not yet been determined.
A Mastercard spokesperson noted that the company had previously announced the development of "a new card combining Web2 and Web3".
It is worth noting that in October 2023, there were reports that Mastercard was considering cooperation with hardware cryptocurrency wallet makers #Ledger and MetaMask. Previously, the company worked on cryptocurrencies with the #Binance exchange, but later distanced itself from this partnership.
