MetaMask presented Smart Transactions functionality to combat MEV bots

DeFi: MetaMask presented Smart Transactions functionality to combat MEV bots

MetaMask, the creator of a popular cryptocurrency wallet, has introduced an innovative functionality called Intelligent Operations. This improvement is designed to protect users from MEV robots and various fraudulent activities.

Representatives of the project explained that the main concept is to create a pool of digital transactions to scrutinize them for any irregularities.

This methodology is designed to eliminate the transfer of data to third-party organizations and quickly identify automated systems that use "sandwich attacks," a tactic commonly associated with MEV robots.

A transaction pool serves as a temporary repository for transactions awaiting inclusion in the blockchain. Malicious users use this mechanism to launch MEV attacks.

Sophisticated #bots monitoring the transaction pool for pending transactions spring into action when significant transactions are detected. They orchestrate two transactions: one preceding the identified transaction and one following it. As a result, users fall victim to price manipulation, resulting in financial losses.

MetaMask's virtual transaction pool not only protects against MEV tactics, but also facilitates transaction modeling, potentially leading to lower transaction costs.

Jason Linehan, director of the Special Mechanisms Group at #Consensys, emphasized that spending $400 million annually on transaction reversals, transaction jamming, and predatory maneuvers using MEVs is a serious problem. He emphasized the pointlessness of paying for transactions that provide no tangible benefit to users in terms of user experience.

MetaMask developers emphasized that they intend to engage third-party validators to process transactions from the virtual transaction pool. However, these organizations will be subject to financial penalties in case of non-compliance with the established rules and tariffs.

In April 2024, MetaMask also launched a feature that allows users to track the availability of tokens' #airdrops from various projects. This feature is compatible with blockchain platforms such as #Ethereum, #Optimism, #Arbitrum, #Base, Zora and #Polygon.
